The craftsman

Every legacy begins with someone who dares to start small and keep going. For Erik Zandvoort, curiosity grew into a craft that blends history, imagination and technical mastery. This is the story behind his work.
Patience is not a choice in this craft, it’s the foundation

For Erik, it began with something small. A simple project he built out of curiosity, made with the kind of care that immediately drew attention once people saw it. That early spark grew into a craft that would define his path: creating Junior Cars and large-scale replicas with a level of detail that speaks directly to those who appreciate true precision.

Mechanical artist

His craft was never a planned profession

Where his journey began.

His interest in technique was always broad and natural. He wanted to understand how things worked, how parts came together, why certain shapes belonged where they did. His craft was never a planned profession. It grew from curiosity, from fascination, from an instinct to create something beautiful with purpose and accuracy.

The pursuit of precision.

Erik does not simply recreate machines. He brings them back to life with an eye for detail that borders on obsession. The smallest curve, the alignment of two panels, the texture of polished metal. These are the elements that captivate him. He can stand still, studying one point for minutes, seeing something no one else would notice, refining it until it feels exactly right.

Collectors admire the mastery.
Specialists recognize the quality.
Erik only sees the beauty of the work.

Pride rarely reaches him during a project, because he spends months, sometimes years, deep inside the details. And yet his work is anything but ordinary. His Spitfire project, a large-scale replica of the iconic aircraft, represents an achievement that would normally require a full restoration team.

A test of courage.

The Spitfire journey began when a client from a technology company saw one of Erik’s cars and invited him to build something extraordinary. Something that carried history. Something with meaning.

He had never built a Spitfire before. There was no manual. No template. Only his insight, his patience and his willingness to discover the process as he moved forward. In his own words: “you just have to start.” Taking on a project of that scale without prior experience demanded courage. That first step became the beginning of something truly remarkable.

Stepping into history with unwavering resolve

A tribute to those who flew.

During the build, Erik was given the chance to sit inside a real Spitfire. Only then did he fully grasp the courage of the young men who flew these machines into the sky. Pilots in their twenties, trusting their aircraft, trusting themselves, stepping into history with unwavering resolve. Icons of their time.

That moment changed the project. He was no longer building a replica. He was honoring a legacy. Respect became his guide. Accuracy became a duty. Every detail had to be right, not for the object itself, but for the people who once flew it.

A brief moment of pride.

Erik rarely sees his work in full until the final stage. He builds piece by piece, deep in the details, barely aware of the complete form until the end. When the Spitfire was finally assembled in his own workshop, he stood beside his client and saw the aircraft in its entirety for the first time. The long silver fuselage, the hand-polished aluminum, the wooden propeller blades shaped exactly as they once were. Even experts from the United Kingdom, pilots, restorers and specialists all recognized the accuracy of his work. Every component was undeniably right.

For a moment, something shifted. The pride he normally pushes aside found him. Quiet, honest, but undeniable.

Becoming who he Is.

Erik often speaks about his creations with modesty. He prefers to let the work speak, not himself. His dedication reaches far beyond routine. There is a quiet strength to the way he approaches his craft. Shaped by his life, his experience and perseverance, shaped by the determination to prove through his work what words never quite express.

Commercial talk is not his language, precision is. Repeatability is not his ambition, authenticity is. His work carries his voice without needing explanation.

The craft that started it all.

The Junior Cars remain at the heart of Erik’s journey. They were the first creations that showed him what was possible when patience and precision meet imagination. Each model carries the character of the original machine, shaped with the same devotion he brings to his larger projects. Collectors saw the quality long before he did, recognising the refinement in every curve and the authenticity in every detail. For Erik, the Junior Cars are more than commissions. They are the foundation of his craft, a place where he continues to explore, improve and express the creativity that set his path in motion.

Looking forward.

The Junior Cars remain an important part of his craft. They brought him recognition and continue to offer a place where his creativity grows with every new design. But he feels he is only at the beginning. The more he builds, the more possibilities he sees: custom projects, unique machines, and ideas shaped by both engineering and imagination.

He knows there is much more ahead of him. New forms to explore, new challenges to take on. Step by step, he is learning to think bigger and create work that carries his ambition into the future.

Why his work matters.

People often see the finished piece, but not the hours behind it. They see the shine, the shape, the beauty, but not the patience or the quiet persistence that brings it to life. Those who understand craft recognise something else. They see the courage to start without certainty, the discipline to keep going when the process slows, and the commitment to refine every detail until it finally feels right.

For Erik, this dedication is not about perfection. It is about reaching a place where he can create with complete freedom. Each project is a step toward that goal, a way of building the independence that allows his imagination to lead the work. His ambition lives in that pursuit, in the desire to shape something honest with his own hands.

His story shows that ambition can be calm and steady. It can grow quietly, through focus and resilience, until it becomes part of who you are. And it is this spirit that connects him to today’s icons, the ones who chase their own unthinkable not for praise, but for the freedom to create a legacy entirely of their own.
